Message from Matthew Thompson

Welcome to Launceston College, we are here to serve our community and work tirelessly to ensure that we give our students the best possible education. An education that is full of success, joy, positivity and ambition. 

Launceston College is an 11-18 academy, serving the community of Launceston and the surrounding areas. We are a school at the centre of the community, with a long and proud history dating back to 1409. We pride ourselves on our high expectations for all areas of college life, from extra-curricular engagement, a sense of community, academic success and sporting endeavour, all whilst in a culture rooted in positivity and appreciation. Students experience a wide range of opportunities whilst at the college, from residentials, the Duke of Edinburgh award, ten tors, sporting fixtures across the country and a range of extra-curricular clubs. Our Performance Academies allow students to take part in a range of sporting, musical and theatrical events. We serve all children in our area and care deeply that all students, regardless of background, have access to an exceptional education. We have an Area Resource Base, the Castle Unit, on site for students with significant learning difficulties that provides excellent teaching and learning as well as opportunities for young people in our community. This is alongside our exceptional sixth form, where we are proud to see our students achieving grades well above the national average and going on to some of the most selective Universities in the country. 

The 2024 GCSE and A-level results place Launceston College firmly as one of the best schools in Cornwall.
