Employer Information

Launceston College is committed to providing a comprehensive careers education to all students, with the goal of "bridging the gap to a better future." We firmly believe that every student deserves the opportunity to make informed choices about their future employability.

Our careers programme at Launceston College has a significant impact on the achievement levels of our students. It not only supports our efforts to reduce the number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET), but also plays a crucial role in:

- Raising achievement levels by increasing motivation and engagement among students.
- Promoting inclusion, challenging stereotypes, and ensuring equality of opportunity for all students.
- Encouraging continued learning, including a pathway to higher education.
- Developing vital enterprise and employability skills that are highly valued in the workplace.
- Reducing dropouts and course switching by keeping students engaged and motivated in their education and training.
- Contributing to the economic prosperity of both individuals and communities.

Ways to support

A number of events, integrated into the school careers programme, will offer providers the opportunity to visit our school to speak to pupils and/or their parents/carers. We believe our careers programme is accessible to all our year groups with key features for careers engagement:

  • Year 7 ‘I love my Job’ - Give an inspiring talk based on your industry or job role
  • Careers Fair
  • Work Experience (year 10 & 12) - Offer a work experience placement for students at your business premises
  • Bespoke assemblies and careers presentations
  • Get involved in extracurricular clubs and activities
  • Be part of our discussions about pathways after school, e.g. apprenticeships
  • Help bring a subject lesson to life by linking it to your industry

We have focused opportunities targeted at High Achieving and Disadvantaged students with bespoke programmes which you may also wish to consider supporting.

By participating in our program, you will not only support the development of the future workforce and expand the horizons of young people, but also establish connections within the community.

  • During your visit, we will provide full support to ensure that your valuable time with us is maximised. Our dedicated Careers Administrator, Mrs. Acaster (dacaster@launcestoncollege.uk), will serve as your main point of contact for any inquiries or assistance you may need.
  • Mrs. Acaster will also coordinate pre-meetings, discussions, and provide information regarding the activities you have signed up for. Additionally, she will provide you with details about local arrangements including parking and facilities, and our safeguarding policy to ensure your visit is comfortable and secure.
  • We would also appreciate your input through a short evaluation process to ensure that we are meeting your expectations and continuously improving our program.
  • With your consent, we would like to add you to our network and keep you informed about future activities and opportunities.
  • By prioritising a comprehensive career education programme, Launceston College is committed to preparing our students for success in the competitive job market, and ensuring they have the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in their chosen careers
